Archive 2022 – Restart, sustainability and living after Corona

The 2022 trade fair year was marked in a special way by the restart after the pandemic-related restrictions. Events took place physically again, face-to-face discussions returned, and products could be experienced and tested not only digitally but also on site. In this context, Heim+Handwerk is exemplary for a market that has reorganised itself – with a strong focus on home ownership, energy efficiency and individual design.

Contributions to trade fair events in 2022

Rethinking living: modular construction, solid wood and individuality

The high demand for sustainable construction and living concepts was striking in 2022. Solid wood houses, wood-clay houses and modular construction methods show a growing interest in ecological materials and flexible structures. Whether modular houses, prefabricated wall systems or loft ladders with integrated insulation – the focus was on energy efficiency through construction. Individuality also became more prominent in interior design. Custom-made furniture instead of mass-produced products, continuously extendable tables and handmade sandstone lamps represent a departure from standardised solutions. In 2022, living spaces were not only functional, but also consciously designed.

Energy, heating and self-sufficiency

Following rising energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty, the topic of heating became significantly more important. Pellet heating systems, condensing boilers for maximum efficiency, ecological thermal insulation and waterproof insulation materials reflect the search for alternatives to oil and gas. The question of whether pellets are more sustainable was discussed, as were integrated heating concepts ‘from a single source’. Photovoltaics on the balcony, heat recovery in whirlpools or soapstone stoves with high thermal conductivity show that energy was not only considered centrally, but also in the immediate living environment. The desire for independence and predictable operating costs shaped many product developments.

Wellness and the garden as a place of retreat

The experiences of lockdown had a lasting effect. Outdoor areas and wellness in one's own home gained in importance. Outdoor whirlpools, barrel saunas in the garden, infrared wellness cabins or modular sauna cubes clearly demonstrate this trend. Pools were also re-evaluated: sustainability in pool construction, renovation of existing facilities and efficient filter technology stood for optimisation of existing structures instead of new construction at any price. The garden became an extension of the living space – complemented by children's playhouses, designer letterboxes and electric garage doors with viewing windows.

Security, digitalisation and comfort

2022 was also a year in which analogue systems were digitalised. Alarm systems, platform lifts as home lifts, ergonomic workstations and modular controls reflect the desire for comfort and security in everyday life. Steam and vacuum cleaner solutions, integrated insulation technology and fully insulated conservatories prove that energy savings and living comfort were not perceived as opposites. Rather, the focus was on holistic solutions – from heating systems to wood-aluminium lift-and-slide doors.

A trade fair year with a special atmosphere

The restart after Corona gave 2022 its own dynamic. Manufacturers presented not only products, but also perspectives. On-site discussions, interviews with decision-makers and personal advice regained importance. Heim+Handwerk 2022 thus documents not only innovations in the fields of construction, heating and living, but also the return of direct exchange.

The 2022 archive represents a turning point: away from pure crisis management and towards investment in home ownership, sustainability and quality of life. Energy efficiency, modular construction methods and individual design characterise a year that began cautiously in economic terms but was confident in terms of design.
