A garden sauna with a large window front creates a permanent place to relax in your own garden. At Heim+Handwerk, we had Isidor show us a barrel sauna for outdoor use and found out what is important when it comes to equipment, use and buying directly from the manufacturer.
Whereas in the past, the basement was often used as the location for a sauna, today wellness is increasingly moving outside. The garden is being used more consciously, regardless of the season and weather. A barrel sauna not only blends in with its surroundings functionally, but also visually. At the Heim+Handwerk trade fair, Isidor will be demonstrating how a garden sauna can become an integral part of the living environment. For many users, the view outside, for example of the illuminated garden or falling snowflakes, is part of the sauna experience.
The barrel sauna shown at Heim und Handwerk has a separate anteroom that can be used for cooling down and relaxing. This area creates distance between the sauna session and the outside climate and increases comfort during use. There is a choice of sauna heater. Both wood-burning stoves and electric stove solutions are possible. At the trade fair, it is clear that wood-burning stoves in particular are currently in high demand, not least because of the typical sauna experience and the smell of wood.
The issue of energy also plays a role in garden saunas, but is not an exclusion criterion for many prospective customers. Anyone opting for an electric heater can easily calculate the energy consumption. According to the information at the trade fair, electricity costs are around 4 euros per sauna session. Nevertheless, the wood-burning stove remains attractive as it offers a classic sauna experience and is operated independently of the electricity grid. Which solution is chosen depends primarily on personal preferences and local conditions.
Isidor manufactures the saunas itself and sells them directly from the factory to end customers. This direct sales channel is a key feature of the concept. The absence of middlemen results in price advantages that are clearly stated at the trade fair. Depending on the equipment, size and heater variant, prices for a barrel sauna range from around 3,000 to 5,000 euros. This means that the garden sauna remains realistically affordable for many households.
