By hosting high-profile medical congresses, Messe Stuttgart is strengthening its role as a central science location in southern Germany. Events such as the ESPO Congress and the Annual Congress of the German Society for Senology will once again put cutting-edge medical research in the spotlight in 2025. This positions the exhibition centre not only as a venue, but also as an active platform for international knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary networking and scientific progress. Messe Stuttgart plans to further expand its portfolio in the field of medical congresses in the coming years.

International debut: ESPO Congress in Stuttgart for the first time

From 3 to 6 May 2025, the 17th Congress of the European Society of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology (ESPO) will take place in Stuttgart for the first time. More than 900 specialist participants from all over Europe and beyond are expected to attend. Under the motto ‘Creating innovations – Implementing innovations’, the focus will be on transferring research results into clinical practice. New diagnostic procedures, modern surgical techniques and technological innovations in paediatric ear, nose and throat medicine will be discussed. The fact that the ESPO Congress is being held in Stuttgart for the first time is also the result of close cooperation between Messe Stuttgart, regional university hospitals and scientific institutions. The choice of location underlines Stuttgart's growing importance as an internationally visible centre of science. At the same time, the region benefits from the international presence of highly specialised professionals who promote scientific exchange beyond the congress days.

DGS Annual Congress: Proven partnership with Tübingen

For the fourth time, the annual congress of the German Society for Senology (DGS) will be held at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre. From 26 to 28 June 2025, the focus will be on current developments in research, diagnostics and therapy for breast diseases. The congress is regarded as a central platform for interdisciplinary exchange between medicine, research and healthcare practice. The content will focus on topics such as artificial intelligence in precision medicine, big data in pathology and new imaging techniques. The close connection to Tübingen University Hospital has proven to be a solid foundation. It not only enables a high level of scientific quality, but also direct exchange between research and clinical application. For Messe Stuttgart, the repeated hosting of the DGS Congress confirms the attractiveness of the location for medical societies.

Medical congresses as a strategic growth area

The increasing importance of medical congresses is part of a conscious strategic orientation. Scientific events place high demands on infrastructure, logistics and technical equipment – at the same time, they offer great potential for sustainable growth. Messe Stuttgart sees this segment as a long-term field of development that goes beyond traditional trade fair formats. Medical congresses combine scientific content with international networking, further training and technology transfer. They contribute to the visibility of the science location and at the same time strengthen regional value creation, for example through overnight stays, catering and services. Messe Stuttgart therefore sees these formats as an integral part of its location strategy.

Flexible room concept for large scientific events

The ICS International Congress Centre Stuttgart plays a central role in this. With 33 flexibly usable conference rooms, modern media technology and direct access to the exhibition halls, it offers optimal conditions for medical conferences with several thousand participants. The proximity of congress and exhibition areas facilitates the integration of trade exhibitions, industry presentations and scientific sessions under one roof. This infrastructure proves to be a decisive advantage, especially for international congresses. Short distances, flexible room concepts and high technical standards enable complex event formats that meet both scientific and organisational requirements. ESPO and DGS will make intensive use of these opportunities in 2025, thus confirming the competitiveness of the location.

Stuttgart as an interface between science, practice and exchange

By specifically strengthening its medical congress portfolio, Messe Stuttgart is underlining its claim to bring together science, practice and international exchange. The combination of efficient infrastructure, regional research expertise and international appeal makes the location increasingly attractive for medical associations. In the long term, Messe Stuttgart intends to continue along this path and attract additional congress formats from the fields of medicine, life sciences and the healthcare industry. In doing so, it is making a sustainable contribution to raising Stuttgart's profile as a science location while also strengthening its own position in the international congress business.
