With Cat Command, Caterpillar is pursuing a clear approach: in future, machines should also be controllable from a distance - not as a theoretical concept, but as a functioning solution for real-life use. The machine operator either sits in a stationary control cabin or uses a portable console with which construction machines can also be operated remotely on the move. This principle could already be experienced in practice at bauma: A wheel loader unit in Malaga was controlled live from an exhibition hall in Munich. The control system ran in real time, including all relevant functions and assistance systems. Such applications show that remote control in the construction industry has long been more than just a technical experiment - it is already being used specifically to improve safety, efficiency and flexibility.
Both the permanently installed control station and the mobile unit are consistently based on the original machine cab. Control elements, monitor positions, displays - everything is designed to provide the machine operator with a familiar environment. This means that switching from the real cab to the remote control requires hardly any adjustment.
For companies, this offers a decisive advantage: there is no need for new training, because anyone who knows the machine can immediately work productively with Cat Command. Caterpillar deliberately avoids simplified control interfaces or symbolic operating elements - instead, the company relies on continuity in the operating logic.
