Every year, the International Toy Fair presents the Toy Award to particularly innovative products in various age categories. The Baby and Infant category focuses on the needs of the youngest children – toys for children aged zero to three that not only entertain but also promote motor and cognitive skills. This year's award ceremony once again highlighted the importance of thoughtful design, age-appropriate functionality, and sustainable materials in this segment. The Toy Award in the Baby and Infant category is presented by a jury of experts consisting of industry insiders, educators, market researchers, and design experts. The toys are evaluated in particular for their play value, degree of innovation, safety, and workmanship.
This year, first place went to Tegu for its product **Beans & Tumtum – Magnetic Wooden Block Set**. The magnetic wooden blocks impressed the jury with their successful combination of traditional play concepts and modern implementation. The blocks can be easily connected to each other using integrated magnets – so easy that even toddlers can create their own structures. The jury emphasized that the system gives children their first sense of achievement when stacking, combining, and creating – a key aspect for toys in early childhood. It trains tactile perception as well as hand coordination. At the same time, playing with the magnetic elements promotes spatial awareness.
The award was presented during a ceremony at the International Toy Fair. In his laudatory speech, jury member Andrew Dobby emphasized that wooden toys are experiencing a renaissance and that the Beans & Tumtum set is a successful example of the creative use of this material. He said the award was an expression of recognition for a well-thought-out product concept that combines tradition and innovation. Representatives from Tegu accepted the award in person. In his acceptance speech, Steven, who represented the company on stage, praised not only his own team, but also international partners and the employees at the production facility in Honduras. The victory in the Baby and Infant category is therefore also recognition of Tegu's sustainable, social, and creative corporate philosophy.
The Toy Award in the Baby and Infant category shows once again that good toys for the little ones must be more than just colorful accessories. They need well-thought-out concepts, clear shapes, high-quality materials – and a playful approach to the world. Tegu's winning product combines all of this: Beans & Tumtum is safe, durable, and versatile. It enables children to have their first independent play experiences, accompanies them in their development, and sets standards in terms of design and sustainability. A well-deserved first place.
