Knight's castles have been a core part of Playmobil for decades. With Novelmore, the company is revisiting this classic theme, but significantly expanding it with a more complex narrative structure, new factions, and a stronger interconnection between the game world and media. The familiar knightly romance remains, but is complemented by technology, tactics, and a clear confrontation between two camps.
At the heart of the new knight world are two enemy groups: the Knights of Novelmore and the Burnham Raiders. While Novelmore stands for order, strategy, and technical sophistication, the Burnham Raiders embody an aggressive, fire-driven counterworld. Burning castles, dark armor, and a rough appearance ensure that children immediately recognize who plays which role here. This clear separation is important for play. It makes it easier to get into the story and immediately gives the game direction. At the same time, there is enough room to develop your own narratives, change alliances, or reinterpret conflicts.
What is striking about Novelmore is the greater emphasis on inventions and machines. Catapults, sophisticated defenses, and moving elements play a greater role than in classic knight sets. This brings not only fighting, but also planning, tinkering, and combining to the forefront. Children don't just build a castle and let figures battle each other. They think about how attacks might unfold, which defenses make sense, and how machines can be used. This promotes strategic thinking and keeps the game world interesting in the long term.
Novelmore is not intended as a single product, but as a connected world. Castles, figures, vehicles, and accessories interlock and can be expanded step by step. This is precisely what appeals to many children: the world continues to grow with each addition and becomes increasingly complex. At the same time, the system remains open. There are no fixed game sequences that must be followed. The given story serves as a framework, not a restriction. Children can redistribute roles, mix factions, or develop completely new scenarios.
For the first time, the new world of knights is being expanded with an accompanying TV series. Broadcasting on Super RTL gives Novelmore a media dimension that goes beyond the game itself. Characters and conflicts are given fixed names, backgrounds, and relationships that children know from television. This has two implications for the game: on the one hand, the series provides orientation and inspiration, but on the other hand, the game is not limited to this. The stories shown can be reenacted, changed, or completely reinterpreted. This makes Novelmore a world that can be both consumed and actively developed.
Compared to previous knight themes from Playmobil, Novelmore has a denser narrative and is more visually dramatic. Fire, dark colors, and technical details create a different atmosphere than traditional castle sets. At the same time, the typical Playmobil signature remains: robust construction, clear shapes, and high playability. Novelmore is therefore particularly aimed at children who not only want to move figures around, but also enjoy stories, conflicts, and long-term construction. The knight world is less of a backdrop and more of a narrative space.
With Novelmore, Playmobil shows how a traditional theme can be developed further without losing its roots. Knights, castles, and battles are still present, but are reinterpreted through technology, clear factions, and media expansion. The result is a play world that is both immediately accessible and expandable in the long term. Novelmore works as an entry point for new players as well as an expansion for children who already have experience with more complex play worlds.
