Author Christine Schniedermann continues her successful series of children's books with the Autumn Stories from the Glockenhof, published by arsEdition. After the popular Advent stories from the Glockenhof, young readers can now look forward to new adventures about Mia, her siblings and friends. At the Frankfurt Book Fair, the author will be presenting the book in person and reading from it to primary school children - an opportunity to bring her characters to life and experience direct feedback from the young audience.
At the center of the stories is the Glockenhof, a former bell foundry that is now a residential complex. Children live here, experiencing everyday life between school, family and friendship - just like many others their age. In the fall, this means flying kites, collecting leaves, celebrating Thanksgiving, making lanterns and getting a little spooky at Halloween. Schniedermann has a keen sense of how children see the world and writes in a language that stays close to children's experiences. This results in stories that seem authentic and combine themes such as sharing, helping and friendship with warmth and humor.
Christine Schniedermann finds her inspiration in everyday life - by listening in on playgrounds, in conversations with neighbors' children or through memories of her own children. The short episodes show how much there is in small moments: a fight over a toy, doing handicrafts in the rain or snacking on apples together at Thanksgiving.
Modern influences also flow into her texts. For example, she describes what happens when children watch television for too long on a rainy afternoon - a scene that many families will be familiar with. Without pointing a finger, the author conveys how important balance and imagination remain.
The publisher arsEdition recognized the potential of the stories about the Glockenhof early on. The Advent stories from the Glockenhof were a chance idea that led to a successful project that is now being continued. The series continues with the autumn stories, while Schniedermann is already working on the summer stories.
Her aim is to bring each season to life with its own experiences, celebrations and feelings. In doing so, she remains true to her philosophy - to write stories that take children seriously, make them laugh and at the same time convey values such as solidarity and mindfulness.
