Ela von Schlosslöwenstein is the author and illustrator of a series of books that uniquely combine fantasy, warmth, and nature. Her stories are about the little miracles of everyday life, helpfulness, and the courage to be there for one another. Her two volumes contain more than sixty short stories that captivate children and adults alike.
With her book Wonderful Elf World, Ela von Schlosslöwenstein has created a collection of stories that combine fantasy, empathy, and a love of nature. In two volumes with a total of almost seventy stories, readers encounter elves, animals, and nature beings who help each other, overcome difficulties, and show understanding for one another. Each story represents small, everyday values—friendship, patience, compassion, and trust in goodness.
The focus is always on an elf who stands by another being. The violet elf, for example, encounters a bear with a problem and helps to find a solution. Along the way, the author imparts knowledge about plants and their significance in nature. The result is a world that combines the magical with the everyday and appeals to readers of all ages.
Ela von Schlosslöwenstein designs her books entirely herself – from the text to the illustrations. Her drawings feature fine lines, soft colors, and loving details that underscore the atmosphere of each story. The characters and scenes are created in parallel with the writing: as she drafts a story, the image in her head already takes shape. Elves have accompanied the artist since her childhood. She sees them as helpers, protectors, and symbolic figures of nature. This deep connection to nature and trust in invisible forces are reflected in all her stories. They create space for calm, imagination, and mindfulness—values that are becoming increasingly important in a fast-paced world.
The books are written for children aged six and up, but also appeal to adults. The simple, clear language invites reading aloud, while the themes – solidarity, compassion, and closeness to nature – also touch older readers. Children find adventures and characters they love, while adults discover symbolic depth and emotional warmth.
In addition to the books, an audiobook with its own music has already been released, which deepens the mood of the stories. Another book is in the works. The series is currently published by Verlag Neues Leben in Salzburg, but the author hopes to make her elves and stories known beyond the region soon.
