Light is more than just brightness—it influences our mood, creates atmosphere, and can completely transform a room. The company Woodmosphere specializes in precisely this, combining warm light with natural materials. Their handmade floor and pendant lamps made of wafer-thin real wood veneer create a unique atmosphere in any room and use a special technique that allows the light to shine gently through the wood. At the Heim und Handwerk trade fair in Munich, we spoke to Christopher Heyer about how these special lights are made. “We experimented for a long time to find the right process for shaping the wood without breaking it or losing its visual beauty,” explains Christopher Heyer. Thanks to the special processing, the light appears to shine directly from the wood—a warm, natural light source that makes any room more cozy.
Not only the material, but also the technology behind Woodmosphere lights is impressive. Each floor lamp comes with a matching remote control that allows for various settings. In addition to the dimming function, there is a color temperature control that can be used to adjust the light from cool daylight white to a warm, cozy hue. “During the day, we recommend a cooler light that has an energizing effect. In the evening, on the other hand, the light can be set to a warmer, cozier color—similar to the warm glow of a campfire,” explains Heyer. This allows the lights to be adapted not only to the time of day, but also to different moods and occasions.
For those who prefer pendant lights to floor lamps, Woodmosphere offers an equally stylish solution. Their pendant lights are specially designed for dining tables and living rooms and feature a plexiglass diffuser that distributes light evenly and prevents glare. The pendant lights are available in three sizes: 30 cm in diameter for $380, 40 cm for $450, and 50 cm for $520. The wood veneer used is available in different colors and grains, allowing customers to customize their light to match their interior design. The result is a unique design that blends harmoniously into any home.
In addition to private living spaces, Woodmosphere also works with architects and interior designers to create large-scale lighting installations for hotels, restaurants, and office buildings. This involves not only individual lights, but also illuminated wall panels and architectural structures that are specifically designed for certain rooms. "We are a manufacturer and can therefore respond to individual requests. If a customer needs a specific design or a special size, we are happy to implement it," says Heyer. The result is not only high-quality luminaires, but also tailor-made lighting solutions that perfectly combine interior design and lighting. Anyone looking for a special light source that harmoniously combines nature and technology will find a real highlight in Woodmosphere's luminaires.
