During a tour of Heim+Handwerk, the Messe.TV team was impressed by the wide range of products on offer from a variety of sectors related to home living and had the opportunity to speak with selected exhibitors. From the Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation, which provided information on burglary protection, to the protective application of new roller shutter systems, from pellet heating systems to atmospheric wooden lamps to upcycled floor lamps and pendant lamps in limited editions, everything was on display. The question of whether it is worthwhile to have your own pool in our cold German climate was also answered at the Desjoyaux stand.
In 2017, Heim und Handwerk positioned itself as the “largest pop-up store for everything related to the home.” Supply and demand came together perfectly at this trade fair. After an exciting visit to the trade fair, visitors were able to fortify themselves with all kinds of specialties at the Food & Life trade fair, which was taking place at the same time, and reflect on the insights they had gained for redesigning their homes at their leisure.
Heim+Handwerk is an extremely popular public trade fair for home, lifestyle, and crafts. In 2017, it took place from November 29 to December 3 at its traditional location at the Munich Exhibition Center. The public exhibition, which is organized by the Society for Craft Fairs (GHM), once again offered numerous highlights in 2017, such as the Freundin House in cooperation with Burda Publishing and the carpentry theme area with presentations of the competitions “Wood from Bavaria” and “Good Form.”
A total of 1,100 manufacturers presented the entire spectrum of interior design as well as individual crafts and handicrafts in six halls. The topics of energy-efficient construction, refurbishment, renovation, and modernization attracted great interest, and the approximately 130,000 visitors were able to delve deeper into these topics in a supplementary program featuring a series of highly qualified lectures. The personal, relaxed atmosphere at the trade fair was praised by all visitors. This made it easy for them to engage in intensive discussions with craftsmen, interior designers, and architects about optimizing their own homes. With this input and a business card from their preferred company, visitors can now plan their home conversions and renovations in the best possible way.
New at Heim+Handwerk 2017 was the 900-square-meter planHAUS. Thirty companies joined forces to create this interactive world of living. Visitors were able to experience new room concepts and understand the trend toward flexible living with multifunctional furniture. In general, the fact that products could be experienced in the context of actual furnishing examples can be seen as a major plus for the trade fair. Another factor in favor of this successful model is that in 2017, over 70% of visitors purchased craft products and services.
Heim+Handwerk 2017 impressively demonstrated how design, functionality, and individuality can be combined. Today, furniture must not only be beautiful, but also versatile – whether in a single household or a family home. Accordingly, there was great interest in modular systems that can be flexibly adapted to living requirements. The concepts presented included:
Digital living concepts also played an increasingly important role at the trade fair. Smart home technologies were no longer perceived as mere gimmicks, but as practical additions to everyday life that offer greater comfort, security, and energy efficiency in the home. Among other things, the following were presented:
Sustainability was also a key topic in 2017. Many suppliers presented materials that are produced in a resource-efficient manner, are durable, and are as recyclable as possible. The focus was not only on insulation and building materials, but also on surfaces, paints, and textiles for interiors. The following received particular attention:
