f.re.e, short for “Freizeit, Reisen und Erleben” (leisure, travel, and experience), is one of Germany's most popular public and experience fairs – and the largest of its kind in Bavaria. Every year in February, the Munich Exhibition Center is transformed into a colorful marketplace for vacation dreams, outdoor activities, mobility, fitness, and leisure activities. Whether long-distance travel or bike tours, caravanning or kayaking, climbing or culinary delights – f.re.e is the showcase for everything that makes life beyond the everyday more beautiful. The event appeals to a wide audience: families, globetrotters, active vacationers, nature lovers, recreational athletes, and health-conscious individuals. Over 1,200 exhibitors from around 60 countries present themselves at the trade fair, which not only invites visitors to gather information and make plans, but also motivates them to get involved with adventure trails, tasting areas, and stage programs.
f.re.e is divided into six major thematic areas, which are presented on over 80,000 square meters of exhibition space:
What makes f.re.e special is its hands-on nature: visitors can try out e-bikes on the test track, try canoeing in the water basin, experience yoga classes, or test their limits on climbing walls. Stage programs also offer exciting lectures, interviews with extreme athletes, travel tips, and demonstrations—for example, on sustainable travel, new trend destinations, or alternative forms of mobility.
The fair is also a real experience for children: in addition to a supervised children's area, there are special hands-on activities, climbing areas, water games, and bike tours for the little ones. This makes f.re.e an ideal destination for families – informative for adults and fun for younger visitors.
In addition to classic vacation offers, there is also a focus on travel with an emphasis on health, education, volunteering, or personal development. Providers of language trips, study stays, work & travel, or health cures show how leisure time can be spent in a meaningful and effective way.
In addition to global destinations, Bavarian and German regions play an important role – whether Allgäu, Chiemgau or Franconian Switzerland. Many tourism associations and hosts show what can be discovered in their own homeland. At the same time, international partner regions impress with impressive trade fair appearances – from Norway to Namibia, from Canada to Korea.
f.re.e Munich stands for diversity, inspiration, and joie de vivre. It is a platform for providers, a stage for travel visions, and a meeting place for people who want to spend their free time actively, consciously, and in a variety of ways. Whether as a place to plan your next vacation, a testing ground for new hobbies, or a family event, f.re.e is a feast for all the senses.
