The bicycle industry has been undergoing a dynamic development process for years. At the same time, the issue of sustainable production and durable components is becoming increasingly important. EUROBIKE is the central international trade fair for the bicycle and mobility industry. It brings together manufacturers, suppliers, specialist retailers, the media and trade visitors and covers the entire spectrum of modern bicycle and micromobility solutions. In addition to classic bicycles, the focus is also on e-bikes, components, accessories, digital services and new mobility concepts. As a meeting place for the industry, the trade fair offers space for product premieres, technical discussions and an exchange on market developments. The exhibition will be complemented by specialist presentations, discussion formats and special areas dealing with topics such as urban mobility, infrastructure and sustainable transport. EUROBIKE thus functions not only as a product show, but also as a source of inspiration for the further development of the bicycle market.
Bicycles have become highly differentiated over the decades. Different areas of use, surfaces and requirements for comfort, sportiness or transportability have led to a large number of specialized bicycle types. Despite many overlaps, bicycles can be clearly classified according to their design, geometry and equipment. The following overview shows the most important types of bicycle and their typical areas of use.
City bikes and urban bikes are designed for short to medium distances in urban areas. They usually have an upright riding position, fixed lights, mudguards and pannier racks. The focus is on suitability for everyday use, comfort and safety in road traffic. Folding bikes follow a different concept: folding frames allow them to be transported compactly and combine cycling with public transport. They are technically more complex, but are particularly interesting for commuters who need to travel flexibly. Singlespeed and fixie bikes deliberately focus on reduced technology. With just one gear - and no freewheel on the fixie - they are light, low-maintenance and particularly popular in cities. At the same time, they require a certain amount of riding experience and are particularly suitable for flat terrain.
Trekking bikes form an interface between everyday and touring bikes. They combine stable frames, comfortable seating positions and full road equipment with the ability to ride safely on unpaved roads. This makes them suitable for longer excursions and multi-day tours. Touring bikes are consistently designed for high loads and long distances. Robust frames, durable components and extensive luggage racks are at the forefront. They are designed for high payloads and long-term use and play a central role in the touring bike sector in particular.
Road bikes are optimized for speed and efficiency on asphalt. Lightweight frames, narrow tires and a stretched seating position enable high average speeds over long distances, but require a certain degree of physical adaptation. Gravel bikes extend this concept to mixed surfaces. With wider tires, a more stable frame and more relaxed geometry, they are suitable for gravel paths, side roads and long distances away from purely asphalt routes. Cyclocross bikes were originally designed for cross-country races. They are similar to racing bikes, but are more robust and designed for short, intensive use on varying terrain.
Mountain bikes are designed for use off the beaten track. Wide tires with a rough profile and stable frames ensure traction and control off-road. There are further gradations within this category:
Cargo bikes are designed for transporting goods or people. Large loading areas or transport boxes - front or rear - make it possible to replace short car journeys, especially in urban areas. Recumbent bikes follow an aerodynamic and ergonomic concept with a reclined seating position. The air resistance is lower, the comfort is high, but they are less common in road traffic and require familiarization. BMX bikes are compact, extremely robust and built for tricks, jumps and short, intensive efforts. They play their own role in the leisure and sports sector. Children's and youth bikes are specially adapted to body size, weight and motor skills. The focus here is on safety, ease of use and stable handling.
